At Risk Youth
At-risk students who are failing in the traditional school setting due to special needs, failing grades, negative behaviors, suspensions, low attendance or even expulsions. The equine curriculum model is interactive and wraps around academic standards, developmental assets and character education skills. These components make learning fun and successful.
The curriculum is used to create an excitement about learning. Lesson plans have all been piloted in several school systems. The academic standards are focused on writing, listening and speaking skills. The character education skills are taught through an interactive process with horses that students can easily transfer into their own lives.
A three-hour session, two session (total six hours) workshop with horses for youth groups. Minimum 6 people maximum 8. Student/teacher ratio: 2 to 1. Student to horse ratio: 1 to 2 students.
